2014 Pommard Clone
As usual this wine has similar notes to the Stanly Ranch but a uniquness and backbone that allows it to stand on it's own. The 2014 has a depth and richness and Kir and plum balanced by just a touch of oak and soft acidity. The tannins are bigger than the Stanly Ranch but still silky and supple.

Carneros had quite the growing season in 2014. Once again we had one of the driest winters on record but then heavy rains late Feb/early March gave the vines just the right amount of water needed as they prepared for bud break. The Spring was warm and the berry size stayed small allowing for very high quality concentrated fruit. It was an earlier harvest than usual following a most unusual earthquake in August. Our vineyards were not affected even though we were a little shaken up.
This year we harvested earlier than usual in the middle of the night on August 28. The Brix was 24.8 with nice acidity to balance. We de-stemmed and then dumped the must into a small open top tank. After a 6 day cold soak, the yeasts began chomping away at the sugars- beautiful wild fermentation once again! Manual punching down (or stomping) occurred for 2 weeks until the wine went dry. It was then barreled down into about 40% new French oak and laid to rest until bottling 11 months later.
