2014 Ten Rows Carneros Pinot Noir
You can tell from the hue this is 100% Pinot it’s so beautiful, bright, and luminescent in the glass. The nose has hints of candied cherry, rhubarb, and strawberry incense. On the palate you find those same flavors dancing around with a lingering acidity to keep them from disappearing too quickly. A simple, elegant, refreshing Pinot sure to satisfy you now and for years to come.

Tucked in the heart of Carneros, where the eucalyptus trees meander down towards the bay, is the sprawling property known as Stanly Ranch. The cool breezes blowing off the water and the intense afternoon sun have proven to be the perfect climate for growing the finicky, precious pinot grape- as well as some top chardonnays. I had found out about the site back in 2000 when the growers offered ten rows of the old vine pinot noir to a co-worker friend of mine. Thankfully, he was more interested in Bordeaux than Burgundy, so he passed up the offer and they agreed to sell it to me, Nicole. To make a long story short and fit on one page, that was the beginning of my company, Abiouness Wines. Single vineyard Pinots have been the focus under the Abiouness label, as well as this Pinot blend (usually from less than 10 rows). Each year, I choose a different bamboo drawing to adorn the bottle and change it up a little. That is the only constant, n’est pas- change!
So we source the most perfectly ripened Pinot from various vineyards; then we hand sort, destem, and allow it to ferment naturally with numerous punch downs each day. Once the batches have gone dry and the wine is resting in barrel we go through and select a few barrels from each vineyard site to blend together for this special wine. Those barrels are typically lighter in body than the single vineyard batches. They are easy drinking, very approachable wines that you can easily sip on all day long. Of course they also complement a wonderful meal and will age nicely.
