2015 Stanly Ranch Carneros Pinot Noir
The 16th vintage of wine from this beautiful vineyard. Fresh, ripe strawberries, blackberry jam and plums laced with fennel are some high notes in this wine. The palate has a juicy richness and the most silky tannins balanced by a bright acidity and a lingering finish. Only 120 cases made.

The 2015 growing season in Carneros started out with unseasonably warm temperatures in the late winter and early spring resulting in an early bud break and bloom. Colder temperatures in May (during the peak of bloom) caused uneven fruit set which ultimately resulted in a much smaller crop (not a bad thing). There was ample rainfall to nourish the vines and the Lake County fires luckily did not effect our crops. The harvest was one of the earliest on record with high quality fruit all around.
The routine for this pick hasn’t changed much in the last 16 years. We arrive in the middle of the night and help the workers hand pick every cluster and place them in our bins. Form there we transport the grapes to the winery where we sort, de-stem and dump all the clusters into an open topped T-bin. The grapes are then chilled down to 50 degrees for about 5 days to soak up color and tannins. Once the bin is warmed up the grapes begin to ferment naturally and manual punchdowns occur 3 times a day. After dryness, the wine is pressed and pumped into about 30% new French oak barrels where it undergoes natural secondary fermentation. Post-mL the wine is left alone to age until bottling about 11 months later.
